Well, it definitely feels like summer is over and despite the fact that we continue to live in strange and unprecedented times, we had a good, although restricted summer.

We only made it to the cottage a few times this summer and only with our immediate family. We had a great time the times we did go but definitely missed the larger family gatherings. We are hoping that next summer we get back to "normal" (whatever that turns out to be). We played more golf as a family this year since all 7 of us were members at Cherry Downs which was awesome. Teresa, Sean, Lauren and I got in a fairly regular weekday round of golf and then supplemented that with rounds on the weekends. I am going to write a post on golf (hopefully this month) which will include how great it is to play golf with family.

Brendan and Candace are in West Virginia and we miss them a lot but it is exciting for them as they start their married life together.

I am almost finished my post on Teresa and my trip to Sapporo and Otaru so watch for that. Also as mentioned I am working on a post on golf and hope to have that up this month.

So for what's new on the blog site for last month:

  • I wrote a new post, Is watching television causing you stress? Hopefully, you will find it interesting, you may even relate to it. Although not solely focused on the recent US Presidental debate I can't help but add an editorial comment here about how totally disgusting Trump was during the debate. Ok, there it is off my chest. I hope you enjoy reading the post.

  • I read 8 books this month and unusually I finished 4 non-fiction and 4 fiction (I usually skew heavily toward non-fiction). Find them on the updated What to Read post.

  • I added a new post, Books of the Month, which lists the books I highlighted as books of the month going back to June. I will keep this up to date as a way to easily find my favourite books. For the complete list of books, I have read this year go to the What to Read post. This month the non-fiction book of the month is So You want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo. Given everything going on in the world, this is a great book to read and learn. I really wish I had read this book earlier in life, but it is never too late a definite must-read. The fiction book of the month is Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubeshig Rice a Canadian book about an isolated Native Canadian reserve. Although fiction it gives great insight into the way of life for Native Canadians along with a story that is suspenseful and interesting. A great read!

  • I also added a new post where I will pick a wine of the month. For this first month I picked Bonterra a cabernet sauvignon from California. An amazing organic wine that you will definitely want to try. You can find the other 4 wines that I added to the Great Wines under $20 post highlighted in red. Of particular note is Smoky Bay a cabernet sauvignon from Australia that is $9.95. Yes, I said $9.95 and it is great!

That's it. Don't hesitate to send any feedback or questions to thethirdperiod.ca@gmail.com. Always interested to hear from you.
