It is beautiful and sunny this morning and definitely feeling like spring. Despite the explosion of COVID-19 cases in Ontario and the third wave of the pandemic, we are hopeful for better times ahead (sooner than later would be good).
We were disappointed that we could not have Easter dinner with our immediate family (let alone our extended family) yesterday but three of our five children and our daughter-in-law did drop over to the house and we enjoyed a beer outside, watched Kai (our son's dog) tear around our backyard and had a video call with our other two children and their partners. The kids then were given the best take-out ever as Teresa had prepared Easter dinner with all the fixings earlier. We will also miss our traditional Sunday at the Masters family get-together this week. We have missed a lot over the last year (it seems longer) but overall we have been fortunate. We are all healthy and again, hopefully, the end is in sight.
Teresa and I are scheduled to get our first COVID vaccine shot today. I have never been so excited about getting a vaccine. Hopefully, the new Ontario leader of the vaccine task force will do a better job than Rick Hillier and the right groups in our society start getting vaccinated (teachers? workers in food processing? retail workers? high-risk neighbourhoods?).
There is lots new on the website and I hope you have a chance to take a look.
I posted two new articles in March. First, How do we hold governments and government leaders accountable? and second, Are your children still sleeping in your basement?. Hopefully, you will find them interesting. Let me know your thoughts. I also posted my March version of quick takes, a few things that caught my eye last month.
I read eight books last month. Five fiction and 3 non-fiction. It was a good month for reading. Can You Hear Me Now?: How I Found My Voice and Learned to Live with Passion and Purpose by Celina Caesar-Chavannes is absolutely the most honest and open memoir I have ever read. Ms. Caesar-Chavannes was the MP for our riding in Whitby and her book chronicles her life growing up and her time as an MP. A fantastic read and gives amazing insight into the federal government, bureaucracy and Justin Trudeau (not a nice person as I suspected). I read a great book on MBS the Crown Prince of Saudia Arabia by Ben Hubbard and read Mexican Gothic a Horror Story (I have never read a horror story before). It was good. You will find all eight books highlighted in red on the What to read, 2021 edition updated with March info.
I tried two new wines last month, both white and worth a try. You will find the new wines highlighted in red on the Great Wines under $20 - updated with March 2021 info post. Enjoy there are some great wines and great values there.
My wine of the month is Bread and Butter Cabernet Sauvignon one of our favourite cabs and at $18.95 a great deal. Undaunted: My Fight Against America's Enemies At Home and Abroad by John O. Brennan is a great insight into the CIA and the US government and is my non-fiction book of the month. For fiction read People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks I think you will enjoy it. Both wines of the month and books of the month posts have been updated.
Hope you find something interesting to read. Let me know any of your thoughts and comments. Stay safe and enjoy watching the Masters this week!
